Safe and Attractive Tooth-Colored Fillings
At Rotunda Dental, your safety and the integrity of your teeth are very important to us. For this reason, we do not place amalgam fillings in the treatment of tooth decay. Because amalgam expands and contracts in response to temperature changes, it can cause your teeth to crack and break. Furthermore, secondary decay can form under fillings that are constantly changing. To help treat decay as well as protect and strengthen a tooth, we offer tooth-colored composite resin fillings. Composite resin actually infiltrates the porous tooth surface, creating an ideal bond and providing extra strength to a tooth weakened by decay. In addition to restoring optimal health to your tooth, your white filling matches your other teeth for ideal aesthetic appeal.
How White Fillings are Placed
Tooth-colored fillings can be placed to treat a cavity or to replace an old silver amalgam filling. In either case, your Rotunda Dental dentist will prepare the space by removing the decay and/or the old filling. The composite resin, which is putty-like in its liquid form, is then placed onto the tooth. Next, your dentist will harden the filling with a curing light. Using a special dental instrument, he will then shape the filling to ensure a good bite with opposing teeth and polish it until it shines like your natural tooth enamel. Your new restoration will blend in perfectly with your tooth, so all anyone will notice is an attractive white smile—not your dental work.
