Conservative Measures to Transform Your Smile

At Rotunda Dental, we believe in taking the most conservative measures possible to help you achieve the cosmetic results you desire. In many cases of teeth that are irregularly sized, chipped, pitted, or worn down, your Lodi cosmetic dentist can perform cosmetic bonding, tooth recontouring, or a combination of the two to give you a stunning smile. These procedures can often be performed in just one office visit without anesthesia, making them both efficient and comfortable.

Cosmetic Bonding

Cosmetic bonding uses composite resin, the same material your Rotunda Dental dentist uses to treat cavities. Because bonding material can be tinted to match your natural teeth, no one will be able to tell that you’ve undergone a cosmetic procedure. To begin, your Rotunda Dental dentist in Stockton, Lodi, Sparks or Sacramento t will slightly etch your tooth enamel so that the resin will adhere optimally. Next, he will place the soft bonding material onto your tooth, covering imperfections and creating a shape that looks natural and fits well with your other teeth. The soft material will then be hardened under a special light, and your Rotunda Dental dentist will make final adjustments to your tooth shape, followed by a polishing of the tooth to create the same reflective qualities of a natural tooth.

Tooth Recontouring

For teeth that are slightly chipped, pitted, or flattened due to the natural wear and tear of aging, Rotunda Dental cosmetic dentist may be able to perform a minimally-invasive procedure called tooth recontouring. Using a dental instrument that gently buffs away a small amount of tooth enamel, they can smooth out rough edges, small fractures, or pits in the teeth. Your dentist can also reshape teeth that have been worn down, creating rounded edges that restore the youthful appearance of your teeth. All of these procedure can be done at any of our locations; Stockton, Lodi, Sacramento or Sparks NV.

Special Considerations for Cosmetic Bonding and Tooth Recontouring

Both cosmetic bonding and tooth recontouring involve minimal risk. However, because bonding does not respond to professional teeth whitening treatments, you may want to whiten your teeth before your bonding procedure so that the composite resin can be dyed to match your newly-whitened teeth. Tooth recontouring should only be performed if you have a sufficient amount of tooth enamel and your nerve-rich tooth pulp is not too close to the surface. Recontouring a tooth with thin enamel will result in tooth sensitivity.
